Alvin, Caley picked for summer institutes
History instructor Steve Alvin and life science instructor Sue Caley have been chosen to participate in prestigious summer institutes.
Alvin will attend a summer institute at Georgetown University, which is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities Institute on "Islam and the 21st Century: Heritage and Prospects" June 7 through July 2 in Washington, D.C.
"The NEH summer institutes specifically target undergraduate teaching, especially at the community college level," Alvin said.
John Voll of Georgetown's Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding said, "We had many excellent applicants for the institute. Participants represent a wide variety of disciplines, teaching circumstances and professional and personal experiences."
Caley will participate in a National Science Foundation Workshop at Queensborough Community College in New York June 21 - 25.
The Faculty Enhancement Workshop: Engineering Technology Instruction for the 21st Century is designed to enhance instruction in science, mathematics, engineering and technology.
