TRANSFER TALK: Representatives from the following universities will be on campus to talk with prospective transfer students:
* April 29 -- Eureka from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* May 3 -- Lewis University from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All representatives will be in the main lobby.
CHEM ACTIVITIES: The IVCC Chem Club is making plans for a bus trip to a baseball game on May 24. The bus will leave at 3 p.m. from the parking lot.
Sign-ups for the baseball game are being accepted through May 5. Secretary Julie Gula said the cost of $10 would include transportation, the ticket to the game and a sandwich from Subway.
On May 13 starting at 10 a.m. the Chem Club will have a picnic at Starved Rock Park. Gula said the club will provide sandwiches and they are asking students to bring something to share. Sign-ups are due by May 5.
BORIO HONORED ON EARTH DAY: Lou Borio, former chair of the life science division, was honored on Earth Day, April 22, with a burr oak tree planted on campus. A strong advocate of environmental preservation, Borio implemented a raptor rehabilitation program at the college that is still in operation today.
In the rehabilitation program, injured raptors are treated by a network of local veterinarians, and then the birds are housed and cared for at the college until they can be returned to the wild.
HIGH SCHOOL ARTISTS: An exhibit of artworks created by students enrolled in high schools in the district will be in the Cultural Centre Link May 3 through 14. A reception will be held May 4 from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. in the Link.
HEADING STUDENT NURSES: Officers of the Student Nurse Association for 1999-2000 are Sherry Long, president; Shannon Shirley, vice president; Michelle Batkiewcz, secretary; Sue Meyers, treasurer; Marianna Barkley, public relations and Sue Wagner, student government representative. Pam Mammano is the SNA advisor.
MIMIC-ing SUCCESS: At the MIMIC Expo 99 on April 14, the biggest sellers were the lighted potpourri jar and the clock with the CD face. Alice Steljes, business instructor, reported that the potpourri jar sold out before the fair was over. The clocks, 26 of which were sold, generated the most revenue, Steljes said.
Other student-produced products which sold well were the candle illuminator and the Night Blaster of which 18 were sold and the bug repeller of which 14 were sold.
The products were the result of the Making Industry Meaningful in College project.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: At IVCCs annual Recognition Event May 7, 47 employees will be recognized, included those recently granted tenure, those with years of service and retirees. The event will be at the Mendota Civic Center.
Reservations are due to the Human Resources Office by April 30.
PUT YOUR NAME IN PRINT: The Apache is accepting applications for positions on the 1999-2000 staff. All students, part-time and full-time are eligible. Applicants do not need to be enrolled in a journalism or communications course.
