Eagles finish season 2nd overall
IV Leader Staff, May 3, 2007
The Illinois Valley Community College’s Women’s Softball
team ended its regular season on Sunday in a split with Blackhawk College. The
Lady Eagles took the first game 2-0 from the Lady Braves, who are currently
ranked 8th in the nation. In the second game, IVCC lost 6-4.
Coach Cory Tomasson said, “I am very pleased with the way we
played today. Our pitchers both did a great job. Lyndi Araujo scattered three
hits and the first game, and she stayed in two innings to finish of the game
after she took a line shot off her knee. Kayla Reno just happened to miss with
one pitch and their ‘three hitter’ hit a home run. Other than that she was
terrific. We had some players really step up on offense. Biz Janusick came
through with a double in the first game and a triple in the second game that
ended up with us scoring runs. Blackhawk is always our main competitor and so
far this year we have played this team to two 1 run games and two 2 run games.”
The Lady Eagles have finished second overall in the Arrowhead
Conference and are ranked third in the Region IV Regionals behind Blackhawk and
Waubonsee.
The first round of Regional games are scheduled for Tuesday
May 1st at 1pm. IVCC has earned home field advantage and will be facing Highland
Community College.
The winner of that game will travel to Joliet for the
Regional Final Four on May 4th and 5th. Tomasson says, “I am really optimistic
about our chances at Regionals. We have beaten every team there at least once
and we are playing very well right now. If our team plays like it is capable of
playing, we have a tremendous chance of making it to Nationals.”
