IVCC offers ‘Flute Fling’

Illinois Valley Community College will host the Spring
Flute Fling Saturday, May 5 at 2 p.m. in the Cultural Centre. IVCC and Opus 111
students, under the direction of Sue Gillio and Amy Hettel, will perform works
by Beethoven, McMichael, Lombardo and works by the Illinois Valley Flute
Ensemble.
This is the 15th annual Flute Fling. Featured flutists will
include graduating seniors Stacey Decker, Tiffany Morrison, Jessica Oseland,
Caitlin Rosborough and Ben Wolf. The program is free and open to the public.
In addition to the Flute Fling, the college will also host
the ninth Annual Summer Flute Retreat Sunday, June 24 through Saturday, June 30.
This seminar is open to flutists of all ages. Students will
work on performing as well as tone, rhythm and balance.
The Seminar will culminate with a faculty recital Wednesday,
June 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the IVCC Cultural Centre. Instructors for the retreat
include Gerald V. Carey, Sue Gilli, Cindi Isenhower, Ellen Huntington and Anne
Badger, accompanist.
Those interested in attaining an application can contact the
IVCC Humanities Division Office. A $50 deposit is required and cost of the
retreat is $275.
Applications are to be received no later than Friday, June 1.
