Illinois Valley Community College’s Students in Free Enterprise team returned to Oglesby as winners after participating in the Chicago, Illinois SIFE USA Regional Competition on March 19.
They will now advance to the SIFE National Exposition on Sunday, May 6 in Dallas, Texas.
This competition was one of 17 SIFE USA Regional Competitions being held across the country this March and April.
SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses. SIFE organizes community outreach projects that focus on market economics, personal financial success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy and business ethics.
The IVCC SIFE team organized several projects around the Illinois Valley this year.
“Home School Financial Planning,” which SIFE member Jacque Brandner cited as her favorite workshop, presented five workshops which were broken down by age group.
The workshops covered information on budgeting money, financial planning using the five-step plan, savings and investments, credit, insurance and careers.
SIFE members presented this information to children ages 5-18.
