‘I-IREAD plans book sale
    The Illinois Valley Community College I-READ Adult Literacy Program will sponsor a book sale Tuesday, April 17 in IVCC’s main lobby.
    The book fair will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and will benefit the I-READ program, which serves adults who are learning English as a second language and adults who test below a ninth-grade level in reading or math.     I-READ trains volunteer tutors and then matches them with adult learners wanting to improve their English, math or reading skills.

Board seats up in election
    Two seats on the IVCC Board of Trustees will be among items listed on the April 17 election ballot.         Candidates for the board include Stephen Conrad, Lori Scroggs, Dennis Thompson, Bill Strong Jr. and JJ Ossola.
    Scroggs and Thompson are incumbents.

Day of Silence program set
    “Homosexuals as Enemies of the State: Nazi Germany, ‘Family Values,’ and the War on Terror” will be presented from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 in Room B-215 by Professor Jason A. Beyer. 
    The National Day of Silence was started in 1996 by students at the University of Virginia to draw attention to violence against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Earth Day observed
    An Earth Day Fair will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the main lobby to teach ways everyone can protect the Earth.
