Artapalooza offers opportunity for ‘hands-on’ creation

Artapalooza, a hands-on, open house, has been set for
Tuesday, April 12 in the art department. Students, faculty, and staff are
encouraged to visit the art department, located on the lower level of B
Building, and see the facilities.
Workshops and demonstrations will be conducted as well as
student-ed music. The type of art that is typically included is ceramics,
graphic design, drawing and design fundamentals.
According to Karen Zeilman, “I don’t know what types of
workshops are going to be planned at this time. I am involved with the ceramics
demonstration. It will not be ‘hands on’.”
This event began in Spring 2005 by the art department faculty
members Karen Zeilman, Francie Skoflanc, David Bergseiker as a way to show the
college community what the art department has to offer.
It also is a way for students, faculty, and staff to interact
in a more informal context. IVCC students and members of the IVCC community are
able to participate in this event. “We have received a grant which helps us
bring in groups from local schools,” said Zeilman.
Several hundred people are expected. In addition to providing
a fun campus event, Zeilman said Artapalooza also will hopefully act as a
recruitment tool for students to want to pursue art classes. Pizza and
refreshments may be offered during the event.
There is no cost to attend, but note cards, created by art
students, will be for sale.
