Time traveling between classes

As this semester progresses and the reading assignments
get longer, it might be a good idea to tackle a good book now. Even I admit that
I am overwhelmed with textbook jargon and the promises of actually reading all I
have to for a class, but somehow, I still hope to find time for a good book.
A few summers ago, I read “The Time Traveler’s Wife” by
Audrey Niffenegger after many people suggested it to me. I was intrigued after
reading the Chicago Tribune’s comment that this book is a “soaring celebration
of the victory of love over time.”
Well, so far so good. In the beginning, the book is a little
confusing, and you may find yourself squinting your eyes and asking, “Huh?” more
than once, but I promise that in the end, all of your questions will be
sufficiently answered. What’s interesting about the author is that she is a
professor at Columbia College Chicago. Wow, right down the street (sort of).
Her writing style is unique and comforting in the sense that
she captures each character so well that even though I have read the book over a
year ago, I can still picture what I think the characters to look like. I have
read many love stories before (embarrassing enough), and I have to admit that
this is one of the most unique and interesting.
I could visualize this book so well that sometimes I think I
saw it at the movies rather than read it. You can easily pick this book up and
put it down, just in case you do want to get back to “Earth: A Fragile Network.”
For an easy escape, pick up a comforting book and pretend
you’re somewhere else. It just may help with the
overwhelming-beginning-of-the-semester blues.
