  Students recognized at honors banquet

    The Annual Academic Honors Banquet was April 12 at the Starved Rock Lodge for all IVCC honor students who receieved awards.
    English instructor Koshu Jagasia was the guest speaker and Robert Marshall, vice president of Student Services, gave the introduction. Charles Novak, IVCC interim president, also attended and welcomed the banquet guests.
    Jagasia, who just recently won the 2006 Faculty Excellency Award, stated in her speech, “I begin with applauding you, the network around you and the people who surround you.
    “Be proactive and do something to nurture yourself. Do something for the world. We will have limitations but need to keep on trying. Make some kind of a goal even if it’s a small baby step and take 10 minutes each day to nurture yourself. Fill your own cup.”
    The nine recipients of the Thomas J. McCormack Scholar Award were announced and a plaque was presented to those in attendance.
    McCormack Scholars are Kelly Abrahams of Spring Valley, Douglas Alleman of Granville, David Hall of Sheridan, Lucy Hughes of Oglesby, Zachary Medema of Streator, Kimberly Snell of Utica, Michael Soenksen of Ottawa, Angela Strait of Dalzell and Kelly Talty of Streator.
    McCormack Scholars are students who have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.75 in 14 or more college-level semester hours each of their first three semesters.
    McCormack Scholar Award recipient Medema had fond thoughts of the night. “I’ve worked really hard over the last few years, and it was nice to be recognized,” said Medema.
    Academic Honors awards were also presented to students who have earned a grade point average of 3.25 or higher in 12 or more semester hours for three consecutive semesters. These students included:

    Students achieving a grade point average of 3.25 or higher in 12 or more semester hours for two consecutive semesters were also presented Academic Honors awards. These students included:
