After weeks of heavy campaigning that included everything for
signs to buttons to pick-up truck supported billboards, Megan Guilfoyle was
elected Student Trustee. Guilfoyle beat out Hugh Baugher by 34 votes and Robert
Gibson by 58 votes.
Baugher will now fill the position on the Programing Board.
Markita Barnes won the votes in that election, but does not have enough credit
hours to fill the position.
Guilfoyle said, “It was nice to compete against two other
people who wanted this opportunity for student trustee just like I did, and I am
excited that Hugh is now on Student Government so he can share his ideas with
us.”
Jenna Moore was elected SGA president and Amanda Reese won
vice president. Amber Padilla will fill the position of treasurer and Kyle
Fogarty will fill the position of secretary.
A total of 268 votes were cast in the election, a turnout
that pleased SGA members and advisor Cory Tommasson. Tommasson said, “We are
really pleased with our turnout. It is nice to see so many students getting
involved with the SGA. The votes were split up pretty well for the Student
Trustee position because all three candidates did a great job of publicizing
themselves across campus. I am really optimistic about the up-coming year and
what the SGA can do for the college."
