Spanish honor society seeks charter members

The deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. Friday, March 24
for charter applications to Zeta of Illinois Chapter, Delta Sigma Mu, the
national Spanish honor society for community colleges.
“Since I first arrived at IVCC as a new member of the
faculty, it has been my goal to establish a chapter of Delta Sigma Mu as part of
a revitalized World Language Program for IVCC students,” said Anna Marie
Pietrolonardo, World Language Organization faculty advisor. “Our students
deserve this honor; they have earned it.”
A celebratory luncheon has been set for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30
p.m. Monday, April 24 in Room C-316 to install new board members for the World
Language Organization and to initiate charter members of the honor society.
Candidates must send a check for $20 plus $5 for each
non-member guest [luncheon only] by Friday, March 24. Checks should be made
payable to IVCC and sent to Anna Marie Pietrolonardo, WLO Advisor, World
Languages, IVCC, 815 Orlando Smith Ave., Oglesby, IL 61348.
Harriet Custer, vice president of academic affairs; Tony
Killian, dean of humanities, fine arts and social sciences; World Language
faculty, WLO members, charter members of Delta Sigma Mu and their guests will
attend.
The honor society is open to candidates who have received
invitations and would like to become charter members of Zeta of Illinois Chapter
of Delta Sigma Mu. To be eligible, candidates must meet these criteria for
active membership as defined by Sigma Delta Mu, which says students shall be
selected on the basis of high scholarship in general and a certain high level of
attainment in the academic study of Spanish.
Specifically, candidates must have studied at least one
semester of Spanish at IVCC with a minimum 3.0 gpa on a 4.0 scale.
The student must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0
