On Monday, March 6 Illinois Valley Community College art
instructor Karen Zeilman instructed at a ceramics workshop at Minonk City Hall
for the Minonk Successful Farmers 4-H club.
Zeilman gave a demonstration of the mask making activity, and
showed examples of her work. The mask project is part of her Ceramics I
curriculum.
Zeilman explained that she designed the mask making project
to showcase the talents of her students so a more dimensional mask could be
made.
She also stated that mask making is a “wonderful way to
express different emotions and release stress.”
The 4-H member’s masks were quite diverse as some made their
masks to show human emotion, while others made theirs into animals.
The club members will be showing their masks as a visual art
project at the Woodford County Fair in July.
