Deadline to Apply for Graduation Approaching
    Students must apply for May graduation on or before 
Wednesday, Feb. 1. If a student wants to earn a degree or certificate in May, 
the student must complete the graduation application form. Graduation 
application forms can be picked up in the Admissions and Records Office and must 
be turned in to the Cashier with the graduation fee.
MLK Essay contest deadline extended
    The Diversity Team is working on its third annual Dr. Martin 
Luther King Jr. Writing Contest The deadline has been extended to Feb. 7. 
Students can submit writing of any style so long as it addresses some aspect of 
the civil rights movement. Entries should be emailed or mailed to Amanda 
Bigelow. Winners will be announced during Black History month. $100 goes to the 
first-place entry, $75 to the second-place entry and $50 to the third-place 
entry. 
Scholarships Available
    Scholarship applications for the 2006 fall semester at 
Illinois Valley Community College are now available through the Foundation 
office and district high school guidance offices.
Applications are also available online at www.ivcc.edu/foundation/application.html. 
Application deadline is Feb. 28. 
    There are 75 Foundation scholarships restricted to specific 
fields of study such as music or accounting. An additional 28 "open" 
scholarships are available to students in any field. 
    "The application process takes most students less than an 
hour to complete," said Fran Brolley, director of development. "Considering the 
potential reward, an average of $600 per scholarship, it's a wise investment in 
time."

Job Fair, workshops planned for Spring
    Job Fair 2006: The Road To Opportunity" will be held on 
Thursday, April 6 in the IVCC Gymnasium. The hours for the fair are noon to 6 
p.m.. 
    "Last year 80 employers representing a wide variety of 
industries and over 600 job seekers participated in the event," Sharon 
Barthelemy, coordinator of IVCC's Career Services and lead organizer for Job 
Fair 2006, said. 
    All job seekers should plan be prepared to discuss 
qualifications, skills and experience. Job seekers should be dressed in 
interview attire with multiple copies of their resume.

Basic skills prep offered in February
    The Office of Continuing Education and the Math, English and 
Education Department have partnered to offer the Basic Skills Preparation 
Workshop. It will be offered on from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 4 at IVCC. 
    This workshop is designed for students who are preparing to 
take the Basic Skills exam. 
    Students will be able to utilize the IVCC Basic Skills 
Workbook with practice questions to help refresh their reading, writing, and 
math skills. Interested students can obtain an ICTS Registration Bulletin and 
Study Guide in the IVCC Counseling Center or from the Illinois State Board of 
Educations web site at:www.isbe.net/teachers or    
www.icts.nesinc.com.
