Foundation scholarship deadline approaches

The deadline to apply for Illinois Valley Community College
Foundation Scholarships is approaching. Students interested in applying for the
scholarship must complete and return the application by Feb. 28.
Fran Brolley, IVCC’s director of development, encourages
students to apply for the 2006 scholarship opportunities.
Students interested in the scholarship opportunities can pick up a scholarship
application guide in the Foundation Office, located in the C-building, or on
IVCC’s web site.
Every January, as the spring semester starts, the IVCC
Foundation releases its scholarship application guide which is jammed packed
with thousands of dollars in scholarship money available to IVCC students.
After one has picked up an application, one must fill out and
complete a brief essay.
According to the application guide, the essay must include
educational and professional goals, school and community service, and also
financial need.
In response to questions about how the scholarships are
rewarded, Brolley stated, “The scholarships are based upon a two-page double
spaced essay, in which presentation is highly important.”
Last year, 360 students applied for scholarships of all
sorts, and according to Brolley, many were lucky and received on average, $400
towards school.
He encourages all students who will be attending IVCC next
year to apply for the scholarships.
A popular open scholarship, the Smith Scholarship, will
distribute approximately 40 $400 scholarships a year.
Brolley explained, “The Smith family had left $180,000 to the
IVCC Foundation, which allows us (IVCC Foundation) to distribute such a great
amount of scholarships.”
Any questions or concerns about the scholarship opportunities
available through the IVCC Foundation can be answered in the Foundation Office.
