Graduation gown measuring planned
Gown measurement for the 2006 graduation ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 and from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 outside the IVCC Bookstore.
Students who plan to graduate in the spring ceremony and any faculty or administrator attending their first IVCC graduation should be measured. This graduation ceremony is for summer and fall 2005 graduates and spring 2006 graduates.
Those who are unable to get measured on either day, should go to the bookstore by 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 24 for measurement. No measurements will be taken after March 24.

Gay-Straight Alliance meetings scheduled
The Gay-Straight Alliance will hold meetings on the following dates: Feb. 8, March 15, March 27, April 12, April 24 and May 10.
Monday meetings are in C-105A from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Wednesday meetings are in F-113 from noon to 12:50 p.m.
Anyone interested in joining the email group to receive announcements about meetings and activities should contact the group's sponsors at sue_isermann@ivcc.edu or renee_prine@ivcc.edu.

College Visits planned
The following college visits are planned for the upcoming months:
Feb. 29 - North Central
March 15 - St. Francis
March 16 - Eureka
 

Essay contest outlined
"How IVCC changed my life," is the theme of the annual Paul Simon Essay Contest sponsored by the college's Foundation office.
The winning IVCC student will read his/her essay at the college's 40th commencement May 19. In addition, the winner will be nominated for a $500 state award sponsored by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association.
The Foundation is seeking essays from currently enrolled, full or part-time students. Essays must be less than 500 words, typed and submitted to the Foundation office by 4 p.m. Friday, March 10.

Arts and Entertainment Briefs

LUAU PARTY
The Students of the Performing Arts and Music Orginization (SPAMO) will be hosting a Luau Dance Party on the stage in the IVCC Cultural Centre Wednesday Feb. 22 starting at 7 p.m. All dance music will be provided by a deejay.

Slavery History lecture
IVCC’s own Dominic Sarsah will be hosting “The Door of No Return” on Feb. 28 from 12-1 p.m. in the Fireplace lounge. He will be speaking about the history of the African Slave Trade.

ALL THAT JAZZ
On Feb. 16 from 12-1 p.m. in the IVCC cafeteria will be the Simply Jazz Chillfest.
Everyone can listen to the smooth sounds of jazz, compliments of Northern Illinois University Ron Baxter Quartet.

A WALK IN MY SHOES
Students and faculty can attend the “A Walk In My Shoes” lecture Feb. 21 from 12-1 p.m. in room C-326.
Attendees will get to learn about the lives and experiences of several African American men and women who will talk about what it is like for them being “Black” in the Illinois Valley and in America.

Diversity education
There will be a Diversity Education Open Forum in the IVCC main lobby on Feb. 27 from 12-1 p.m. The members of the Diversity Committee will begin an open discussion about diversity.

Irish night
The second annual IVCC Foundation Irish Night will feature performers from The Keigher Academy of Irish Dance of Morris and will be held Saturday, March 11 at 6 p.m. in Ottawa at the Kinghts of Columbus, located at 401 W. Main Street.
