MEN'S GOLF:  Linksters place first at Parkland tourney

The golf team began the season strong wanting to keep up their successful reputation from last year when they were conference champions and placed eighth in the national tournament.In their first two tournaments this year the IVCC team placed first and second.

On Sept. 6, the team placed first at the Parkland Invitational. The team shot 302 and Rock Valley trailed along scoring 303.

Tim Puetz shot 72 to tie for first place, but lost a sudden death play-off to take second.

Contributing were Timothy Eckberg with 75, Tony Andreoni with 77, Craig Mc Conville with 78, and Cory Riordan with 82.

The team placed second at their first tournament in Freeport on Aug. 31. One of their main competitors, Sauk Valley, stayed right behind them, but they lost to IVCC by five strokes. In the past IVCC has beaten Sauk by 25 strokes.

“The competition has gotten better this year and will make my team work harder,” stated Coach Jim Moskalwicz.

At press time, the Apache golfers were in Dixon competing in the Sauk Valley Classic.On Sept. 14 they will be in Romeonville for the DuPage Invitational, and on Sept. 16 and 17 in Rockford at the Rock Valley Invitational.

They will be at home, at Seneca Oak Ridge in LaSalle, Sept. 21-22 for the IVCC Classic.
