The volleyball team is off to a remarkable start, as they possess an overall record of 18 wins and six losses and are 4-1 in Arrowhead Conference play.
At the McKendree Tournament the last weekend in September the women defeated Vincennes, Rend Lake, and Olney Central to record three victories, while losing to only John A Logan.
With the progress her team has showed thus far, head coach Laurie Polte believes her team can do well in their upcoming games.
We are going to be playing some good teams, Polte said. We expect our competition to be much tougher than they were last season.
With her teams early success, Polte feels that the team is doing well due to their team strength in defense.
Our biggest strength is our defense, stated Polte. We have been really quick on defense.
We also are pretty balanced on hitters, which makes it more difficult for the other team to defend us if we do not use the same person all the time.
However, even with her team playing well, Polte still sees room for improvement.
One of our biggest weaknesses has been our blocking, remarked the coach. We are not a very tall team and that can be a major disadvantage. We are just going to have to be quick on the floor.
Polte said she has high expectations for this season.
My personal goal for the team is to do better than last year, said Polte. Last year we were 20-11 and we finished 2nd in the conference, she said. I want to finish first in the conference this year and I think we can do it.
