IVCC's star tennis player, sophomore Wendy Grabowski, is undefeated in both #1 singles and doubles play this season, and she has emerged as the team leader.
Coach Steve Crick states: "Wendy's skill and leadership make her the star out of all the players. Her ground strokes and volley game are excellent. Her serve is consistent. Intangible is her heart and her will to win."
He continues, "She is our team captain. Her fundamentals coming into the program made it a good situation."
Grabowski began playing tennis as a child with her parents. She continued and played tennis throughout her high school career, as her parents had. She lives with her parents, Jim and Janice, in Peru and has a brother who is a senior at the U of I.
Grabowski graduated from L-P in May of 2000. She plans on transferring to the University of Illinois after this year.
When asked what her most memorable game for IVCC has been, she replied, "The closest one I had was at Rock Valley. I won with a tie breaker."
She recalls her favorite game as last year. It was a close match during Regionals. It went into three sets, and IVCC won.
Grabowski is happy with her team this season.
"We have good girls all the way through the line. Everyone fits their position well. We all get along really good on top of it all."
