OOPS: Two corrections from the Sept. 13, 2001 issue of the Apache:

- In the story about IVCCs new program for monitoring the success of student athletes, Kim Abel was incorrectly quoted as referring to IVCCs students as "children." The correct word was "students."

- The story about history instructor Steve Alvin teaching at Canterbury Christ Church College indicated the program in Canterbury was available only in the fall semester. The Canterbury, England program is available both spring and fall.

The newspaper staff apologizes for those errors.

TRANSFER TALK: Representatives from transfer universities will be on campus on the following dates to talk with prospective transfer students.

- Oct. 22 -- U of I Springfield from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Of the 900 ACS chapters, only 24 were named "Outstanding."

Sarah Smith, Chem Club secretary, said the award was based on the group's report of their activities during the year. Several members will be attending the ACS national convention in Orlando, Fla. in the spring to receive their award. They will be accompanied by advisor Bob Byrne.

MOLE DAY: Chem Club members will be observing Mole Day, Oct. 23, by sponsoring activities in the lobby. Chem Club advisor Robert Byrne explained that a "mole" is a chemistry counting unit credited to Leorenzo Romano Amadeo Carlo Avogadro, a 17th century Italian count.

RIVER TESTING: River testing with optional canoeing afterwards is being sponsored by the Chem Club on Oct. 13. Participants will be testing the Little Vermilion for chemicals, pH levels, and organisms.
