Snap Holiday not your typical band
By Jenny Fisher
Snap Holiday isnt just your typical local rock band looking for their big break. They are a band that has gained widespread recognition in the past two years, and for many good reasons.
One thing that makes this band so noteworthy is their diversity. Snap Holiday consists of four talented guys: Matt Harmon of Utica, lead guitar/vocals, Scott "Chipmunk" Munks of Ottawa, drums/vocals, John Tunget of Streator, lead vocals/percussion, and Rick Krumsheid, also of Streator, bass/vocals.
Each member has brought different influences to the band, ranging anywhere from the classics (Rolling Stones and Led Zepplin) through the 80s when hair bands ruled the stage (Iron Maiden) and up into modern day rock and Top 40 Hits (Metallica, U2, Blink 182). This colorful musical background combined with four experienced musicians created a crowd-pleasing package.
Snap Holiday also knows how to get their name out to the public. "Seven Dollar Buffet," and all-original cd put was made when the band first started. They were also able to gather a following by jumping into the bar scene right away. The bands first gigs were places like Club Bluz in Streator, The Zoo in Dwight, and The Ninth Street Pub in LaSalle. For their fans, they have also put together a handy little mailing list showing where they will be in the months to come.
Perhaps the most significant reason why Snap Holiday has become so popular is because they are just good. It is a band simply devoted to making music.
Lead guitarist Matt Harmon, who attends IVCC, says: "We know each other so well that when we are together we have a lot of fun, and thats what its all about." And the crowd loves them for it.
Snap Holiday has no immediate plans, except to keep on playing. Talk of a new, self-produced album may be on the horizon but nothing is yet set in stone. For now, the band is just enjoying making music.
