MASCOT ELECTION: Committee ready to select
By Manuel García Sánchez
A committee headed by Dr. Bob Marshall, vice president of Students Services, is accepting nominations for a new mascot name through 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25. Everybody is invited to submit nominations for a new nickname.
"The whole campus will be eligible to vote if theyd like to," Marshall said.
The nominations will be considered by the committee and, later on, the top three-to-five names will be selected and place on a ballot for a Nov. 15-16 election. Finally, the college community will participate in the election of the new mascot for the athletic teams.
The idea is to submit the top vote-getter to the Nov.20 IVCC Board of Trustees.
Each person may propose up to four names. Among the recommended guidelines are: animals, natural phenomena, and local history. The committee will accept also creative names that may not belong to those categories.
However, no mascots of area high schools and community colleges will be accepted.
The committee includes eight people: two SGA students, two members of the community, both of them former students, three faculty members and Marshall.
