After the terrorist attacks on September 11 the number of people enlisting in the Army has increased, but the number of college students doing the same has not changed.

"I cannot say that we have had a big jump on student enrollment," he Sergeant First Class Mark Ankenbrandt. "You would think that the number would increased due to the September attack, but that did not happen."

Almost every Wednesday, members of the U.S. Army come to IVCC to encourage students to join the Army.

Sgt. Ankenbrandt said that the first step to join the Army is to talk with a recruiter. Then it is necessary to pass an aptitude test and a physical test in order to qualified.

Besides passing these tests, there are some moral violations and certain medical problems that may keep people from joining the military.

"It will take four to five months of preparation before a soldier can go to war," he said.
