IVCC’s Theatre Department is presenting a play at two different locations, and that is posing some challenges.

“Murder on Center Stage” will be performed in the Cultural Centre Oct. 25 - 27 and at the Starved Rock Lodge Nov. 4 in a dinner theater setting.

Tom Schultz, Technical Director, said it has been a fun challenge because it gets him thinking.

“You have to be able to design for both locations,” he said. “Some of the lighting things I want to do, I’m not going to be able to transfer out to Starved Rock just because we don’t have the portability of some of the equipment and also the power needs. We don’t have the ability out at Starved Rock, so we have to pair down everything,” he said.

Schultz said another challenge is the time problem of setting up at the Lodge, rehearsing in the afternoon, performing that evening and taking down the set right after the performance so the Lodge can use the room the next day.

“The set is actually a fairly simple set and in that instance it did help us because it’s easier to do as opposed to having a full sized apartment on to a stage and then having to move that,” he said. “Now that would be even more of a challenge.”

The play will be presented Oct. 25-27 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Bookstore. Regular tickets are $5 and admission is free to students.

The Starved Rock dinner theatre performance is sold out.
