The women’s softball team, which has been practicing for the spring season, will be taking a break beginning Nov. 20. Spring training will beginning in early March in Florida.

They will play games against New Jersey and Missouri. Their opening game is at home against Sauk Valley on Tuesday, March 19.

This year's team consists of Melissa Cass, Kara Cioni, Ashleigh Davis, Marie Gubbels, Christina Jesse, Megan Nation, Lisa Olson, Natalie Ruppert, Brenda Stewart, Marci Thorpe, and Gabe Wood.

Coach Cory Tomasson reviewing his team states, "We have strong recruited team coming in. I am looking forward to the spring season."

Last year, the women closed out their spring season with a 31-9 record and fourth place in Regionals. The team finished with a 11-5 conference score winning second place.

Main competitors the team faced were Blackhawk and Kankakee. IVCC played Blackhawk in the conference, and Blackhawk won as they have for the past eight consecutive years. Blackhawk only lost one game during last year's season and that was to IVCC.

The other tough competitor, Kankakee placed third at Regionals while Illinois Valley placed fourth.

The team has lost a total of six players: Lana Gambiani, Brooke Schneider, Casey Novotney, Thanee Cockrin, Carry Meyer, and Megan Thomas.
