Freshman basketball player Karissa Dinges scored 16 points in her first game against Danville this season.

Reviewing that game, Dinges said: "The first game of the season went well. Even though we went into double overtime, it showed we had a lot of potential and that we would not give up and lose."

Dinges has positive feelings about her team this year.

"I feel as a team we get along really well," she said. "We are good friends on and off the court and that will carry our team."

She continued: "It is a different atmosphere because I used to compete with these girls in high school. It is a lot nicer playing with all of them."

Dinges played basketball at St. Bede throughout her high school career. She recalled his most memorable game, against Mendota High School, her junior year at Regionals: "I was playing against my best friend, and my team won the Regional title."

Dinges decided to attend IVCC to play basketball after tearing her ACL.

"I would be close to home and my doctor in case of another injury," she said.

The point guard started playing basketball as a child with her brother who also played in grade school and high school.

Dinges lives with her parents, Linda and Steve, in Mendota. She is taking general courses at IVCC.
