Everybody in the campus can vote to elect the new IVCC’s mascot on the Nov. 15-16 election. Ballots will include the top three names, Eagles, Rockies, and Vipers, from among over 180 submitted by students, staff and the public in late October.
Dr. Bob Marshall, vice president of student services encouraged people to participate in the election. The ballot vote will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16.
The winner of the election will be submitted for approval to the IVCC board of trustees Nov. 20.
"The Rockies refers to our connection to Starved Rock and eagles, especially bald eagles, winter in the Illinois River Valley," said Marshall.
According to Tim Horger, biology instructor, the third possible nickname refers to small populations of sand vipers, commonly known as the Western hognose snake, which are reported to exist in the sand prairies of Bureau County.
