TRANSFER TALK: Representatives from transfer universities will be on campus on the following dates to talk with prospective transfer students.

- Dec. 4 - Lewis University and Eureka, both from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

- Dec. 5 - WIU from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

- Dec. 6 - EIU from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The representatives will be in the main lobby.

POWER RECRUITING: People of the World End Racism is looking for students who have an interest in promoting tolerance and acceptance of differences to participate in presentations to area high school students. Further information is available from advisor Kim Abel at ext. 330 or at her office in the Counseling Center in building E.

PLANT SALE: Student Educators will be selling poinsettia, Christmas cacti and cyclamen from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 26 in the main lobby. The plants will range from $6 to $15.

A new addition to this fundraiser, the group's third annual holiday plant sale, will be cyclamen in a wire basket.

Advisor Diane Christianson said, "Plants are always a wonderful addition to any home or office."

GIVING TREE: The Student Nurse Association is again sponsoring The Giving Tree, an opportunity to make the holiday season brighter for residents of area long-term care facilities and children from a children's home by giving them a small gift.

Students and staff are invited to help by picking up a card/ornament from the tree located outside of the nursing office, A-217. The requested, wrapped gift and a card should be returned to the nursing office by Dec. 5. SNA members will deliver the gifts.

SNA members Gracey Yee and Dianne Dannemiller are in charge of The Giving Tree project.

NEW CAMPUS GROUPS: A new student group, Circle K, has been approved by the Student Government Association. Marty Wygmans is the advisor.

Approval of a Latino organization, Alma Latina, will be discussed at the next SGA meeting, at 7:15 a.m. Nov. 20 in C-103. Pat Cole and Lou Caldwell would be the advisors of that organization if it is approved. Alma Latina members want to promote the Hispanic culture at IVCC, provide a student support system for club members and others who face problems in education and discrimination, and encourage members to perform voluntary community services.

ALLIANCE MEETINGS: The Gay/Straight Alliance will be meeting at noon Nov. 28 in C-316 and Dec. 12 in the Fireplace Lounge.

TEXTBOOK BUYBACK: Textbook buyback is scheduled at the bookstore at the following times during final exams:

- Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

- Dec. 13, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

- Dec. 14, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

- Dec. 17, 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

PRESIDENTIAL LEADERSHIP: IVCC president Dr. Jean Goodnow participated in a presidential panel at the American Association for Women in Community Colleges National Conference in Chicago Oct. 25 - 27.

DROPPING OUT CAN COST YOU MONEY: Students on financial aid who drop out or stop attending classes may have to pay back a portion of the aid they received.

"If you stop attending or drop out, then you are not earning you aid," said Paul Crawford, director of financial aid. "If you don't earn it, you will have to pay it back."

Questions about financial aid can be directed to the Financial Aid Office.

TUTORING OFFERED: Peer tutoring is being offered, free of charge. The tutoring center is located in room B-201 between the math and reading labs. Anatomy and chemistry tutors are available in their respective labs. Schedules are available at the Records Office, Bookstore, Library, Counseling Center, and Project Success.

Students interested in tutoring assistance in any subject should contact Mary Turchi at ext. 520, room A-317.

FORMER DEAN PUBLISHES: Dr. Hans Andrews, former Academic Dean of IVCC, has published a book entitled "The Dual-Credit Phenomenon: challenging Secondary School Students Across 50 States." Dr. Andrews is the President of Olney Central College in Olney, Ill.

JOIN THE NEWSPAPER STAFF: Positions are still open on the student newspaper staff. The staff is especially looking for anyone interested in art, cartooning, illustrating and in movie reviewing. Positions are also available in news, sports or opinion writing, photography, and page layout. Contact advisor Dr. Rose Marie Lynch in B-320, extension 209 or 223-2261 (home).
