IVCC Americorps members Lee Dvorak and Jan Foehring and coordinator Jill Urban-Bollis attended the Americorps Opening Day Ceremony in Springfield on Oct. 22.
The event's keynote speaker was Ben Corley, chief executive officer of Corley Consulting Group. Corley Consulting Group's function is leadership training for youth, young adults and adults.
Corley offered Americorps members valuable information about the importance of asset building for young people. A proven method for influencing youth in the right direction is the positive role model of a mentor, just one of the many aspects of the Americorps program.
Americorps members also attended workshops on domestic violence, child abuse, mandated reporting, stress management through exercise and lifestyle changes, and dealing with diversity. The celebration was concluded with Americorps members being officially sworn in for this year's service.
