The Peer Tutor Program is a free service for students that provides help to anyone who feels they need it with any subject.

Currently, 19 students are working as tutors, and new tutors are being recruited for the spring semester. Jim Dresbach, who is in charge of peer tutoring, said "the main goal is to make it accessible to have a tutor for every day of the week."

Dresbach said being a tutor provides many benefits, especially for those pursuing a degree in education. Tutoring gives students an early start in working in the field and is an excellent reference for resumes. The basic requirements for tutoring are having a firm grasp on the subject and a teacher’s recommendation.

Tutors are paid minimum wage, and they are introduced to a range of other on-campus jobs.

Dresbach encouraged students who are struggling with work in any course to ask for tutoring assistance: "No one should feel intimidated by a fellow student helping them; peer tutoring is made to help students with their studies and everything is completely confidential."

Students needing help may choose to participate in one session or as many as they feel necessary. They can make appointments, but they can also walk in to B-201 and get help on the spot, Dresbach said.

Tutors typically work with students in the areas of English, math, foreign languages, history/western civilization, and the social sciences, although tutors are made available in other areas.

For more information or to pick up a copy of the upcoming schedule, contact Dresbach at extension 479 or in B201.
