ELECTION 2000: Students sound off about candidates
By Nate Bloomquist
Apache Editor
The Apache recently conducted a survey which was distributed among 327 IVCC students. The survey was used as a way to determine how IVCC students would vote in the election. There were some interesting results available upon completion of the survey.
Eighteen of the 327 said they were undecided. Seventeen of those who were surveyed said they favored one of the third party candidates. Of the total surveyed, 148 said favored Bush, 144 were leaning toward Gore.
There were 184 people surveyed who said they planned on voting in the election.Of those, 92 said theyd vote for Bush and 92 would vote for Gore.
In addition to revealing their preference, those who were surveyed were asked why they would chose to vote for a candidate. The answers to the surveys were all anonymous. Here are a few of the responses.
On George W. Bush
Lets flip the ticket with Cheney for President and Bush Vice President.
I liked when Bush got caught calling a reporter an a****. He seems more real and down to earth.
I dont want George W. Bush to become president. He seems to not understand what the people want.
On Al Gore
When I voted for Clinton in `92 it was because I really liked Al Gore and was so impressed with his debates. These past eight years, too many people have gooble-gobbled his mind with petty political games that he can hardly speak effectively anymore.
If Al Gore wins Im going to Mexico.
Other comments
How can I vote when I dont like either, unless I do a write in or an independent. The presidential race is a joke and a laughing stock. Thank you (Bill) Clinton.
Bush and Gore are stupid and their VP candidates know more about the facts than they do.
What Bush cant remember, Gore will make up. I have more respect for someone that believes in something and cannot be swayed than I do for someone that changes their stance depending on the circumstances or benefits.
Voting is important. Its our responsibility.
I havent followed anything and I dont think there will be much of a difference who wins.
Clinton is funny and should definitely be re-elected.
