Family Reading Night, rescheduled from Nov. 9 to Nov. 13, will offer a variety of experiences, free of charge, for readers of all ages.

Activities will kick off at 6 p.m. with Kay Price of Pickle Soup Productions in Peoria telling a story in the Cultural Center. Price is a member of the Peoria Prairie Storytelling Guild.

From 6:30 to 7:30, participants can choose from activities for preschoolers through kindergarten, elementary and junior high students, high school students and adults, or a book discussion.

"Family Reading Night is an excellent opportunity for all families to enjoy an evening together," said Marianne Dzik, one of the organizers. "The committee planned the program with the family in mind, so there is something for everyone to enjoy."

Among those activities:

· Western Illinois University's Regional Touring Theatre will perform "The Emperor's New Clothes" by Ken Elston in the Cultural Center

· A panel will discuss "Do You Want to Write, Illustrate of Publish?" in F-113. The panel will include English instructor Geoff Schmidt, who has published short stories, newspaper articles and most recently a novel; Joellen Bednarik, L-P High School art instructor, who has illustrated a children's book; and Ron McCutcheon of Carus Corporation who is the art editor for Cricket.

· A book discussion, "Yes, It's Been Quite A Summer -- But Don't Stop the Carnival: Jimmy Buffett's Writing and Musings Revisited" will be led by writing instructor Brian Campbell in C-316.

· Activities for pre-schoolers will be in the cafeteria.

Refreshments will be served in the cafeteria at 7:30 p.m.

A Troll Book Fair will be held in the main lobby from noon to 8 p.m. in connection with Family Reading Night.

"A book is an excellent gift for Christmas, so start your Christmas shopping at the Book Fair," Dzik said.
