Smoking is now permitted in four new areas outside of IVCC buildings. The additional areas were approved at a meeting of the Administrative Cabinet on Nov. 7.

The new areas are:

- north entrance into cafeteria from courtyard

- south entrance to building A at top of ramp to courtyard

- north and south entrances to link between building B and D

- east entrance to building E

Larry Rousey, director of facilities, said the added areas were picked to be convenient and to be in protected locations.

"We know people are going to be smoking in the courtyard," he said. We are trying to give people places to smoke and to keep the mess to a minimum. We are also trying to be courteous to people who don’t smoke."

Smoking continues to be permitted in previous designated areas, which include:

- south entry to building C

- covered area, south set of doors off student dining and vending machine area

- main entryway on north side of Gymnasium

- west entry doors of Auto/Ag building

- east entry door of NOA building

- south entry door of Maintenance Building

Board policy prohibits use of tobacco in the buildings.
