About 350 students were welcomed and caught a glimpse of IVCC life during The 1999 Fall Preview held on campus Aug. 16.

The preview was held between 4 and 7 p.m.for any new, transfer, or returning students to give them a chance to view and tour the campus, and see what organizations and services are offered.

Athletic Director Mike Riley, who organized the event said, "I really tried to put something together that was an orientation that students could have a little fun at."

The preview was set up like a carnival with free sodapop, hot dogs, corn dogs, popcorn, candy, pencils, T-shirts, sports bottles, key chains, all sorts of other campus goodies.

Jeff Carver, assistant to instruction of physical science and proprietor of C&J Entertainment, lent his disc jockey services for the event.

Campus clubs, groups, and organizations set up tables and introduced themselves.

"I think that the only real problem that we had was the fact that so many people were waiting in the line for the I.D.s," said Riley. "Next year we’ll try to bring them down with everything else so the group can pretty much stay together."

Freshman student, Sarah Urbanech said, "I was pretty lost until I went to the information desk and they gave me a map." She continued, "It would have been nice if they would have handed them out when we first got there."

Riley said that he and some Student Ambassadors were giving the tours and that others were helping students individually.

"We were just trying to get students involved and let them know how much fun we’re having here," said Riley. "We were trying to get the information to the students in a way that was enjoyable to them."

He added, "I saw a lot of people smiling. They came in, ate a hot dog or two, sat down and listened to the music, had a good time, and they left with the information they needed."
