John H. Hill Jr., who had worked in the Computer Services Department since 1995, died Oct. 19 in Perry Memorial Hospital. He was 39.

"His great sense of humor kept all of us in the department sane during the most stressful times of the year," said Harold Barnes, director of computer services. "Even though he was suffering from very serious illnesses, John did not complain.

"He came to work many days when his illnesses made him so sick that he should have stayed home," Barnes continued. "But, even when he did stay home, he was always asking for projects that he could work on from there."

Barnes described Hill as a key member of the department and well liked on campus.

"He was very resourceful and always coming up with new ideas on how to make the academic computer systems run smoother and be more useful," Barnes said.

Calling Hill not only a good employee but a very good friend, Barnes said "John will be greatly missed by all of us but not forgotten."

College president Jean Goodnow said, "I know that John loved working with us at IVCC, and we will miss him."

Hill, who was a PC Specialist, started working in Computer Services in 1993 as a student worker.

Born Feb. 8, 1960, in Aurora, Ill., Hill married Julie Bornsheuer in 1978. He served in the U. S. Army.

He is survived by his wife; three children, Kristy, John and Sarah, all at home in Buda; his father, John A. Hill, Sr., of Elk Grove, Calif.; his mother, Marilyn May of Galva; one brother, Mark Hill of Elk Grove, Calif,; three sisters, Kim Hill of Coos Bay, Ore., Lisa Randazzo of Oswego and Patti Williams of Galva.

A memorial service was held Oct. 23 at the Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton. Cremation was accorded.
