Enrollment this semester is down and the drop is a significant one according to Kelly Conrad, director of admissions.

The student head count is 3,696, a 6.5 percent drop from last fall’s 3,956. Evening classes are down even more -- an 11.5 percent decrease.

Although student numbers are down significantly, the total number of hours in which students are enrolled is down only about .4 percent. This fall students are enrolled in 32,827 credit hours compared to 32,974 last fall.

Conrad explained that total number of hours in which students are enrolled in more important to the college because state funding is based on the hours, not on numbers of students.

The numbers may rise some, Conrad said, after adult education students have registered.
