Paying for tuition, fees and books with a VISA or MasterCard was an attractive option to about eight percent of IVCC’s students this fall, the first time the college accepted credit cards.

As of Aug. 24, 325 students had used their cards for tuition and fees, according to Isabelle Furar, accounts receivable clerk. She added that the majority of community colleges in Illinois take credit cards.

Bookstore manager Lauren Sandberg said she didn’t have an exact count on the number who charged books. "I would estimate that approximately 8 to 10 percent of our sales this fall were charged on a credit card," she said.
