Paul Thompson of Oglesby was elected freshman representative to the Student Government Association in elections conducted Sept. 17 and 18.

Thompson, the only declared candidate for three freshman posts, has been joined on the SGA by Nicole Humphries of Princeton and Courtney Denton of Ottawa who won as write-in candidates to the programming board.

Thompson received 180 votes; Denton received 22 write-ins and Humphries 18 write-ins.

Filling a post left open in spring elections, the SGA appointed Amy Kozikowski as a sophomore programming board member.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

The next SGA-sponsored activity is a performance by comedian Scott Fulkenbridge Oct. 26 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Cultural Center.

SGA CONFERENCES

SGA members are making plans to attend the Leadership Conference at Illinois Central College in Peoria Oct. 16 - 17.

Oct. 2 – 4, President Jeff Twardowski, treasurer Judy McQuilkin and secretary Tina Wujek attended the Illinois Board of Higher Education Student Advisory Committee meeting in Springfield.

LEGISLATIVE BRANCH MEETS

Recommending approval of two new campus organizations was the major action taken at the Sept. 29 meeting of the legislative branch of the SGA.

The organizations, which must now be approved by the SGA, are Student Educators to be advised by Diane Christensen, early childhood education instructor and a fitness and wellness club to be advised by Educational Fitness Center director Anthony Ruda.

In other business, the legislative branch members heard that the theatre honorary is now named Club for Acting Students of Theater or CAST. The group had been called Delta Psi Omega and affiliated with that national organization, but last spring the group decided to drop their national affiliation.

The legislative branch is headed by SGA vice president Megan Sluis and includes a representative from each campus organization.
