Besides promoting scholarship, PTK also promotes services. The Rho Omega chapter donated over $200 and more than 800 books to the I READ Literacy Program recently. Members raised the funds in a bake sale and collected the books in a campus book drive.
PTKs efforts on behalf of I READ were joined by donations from Sauer-Sundstrand in LaSalle, under the leadership of Cathy Angelico, PTK member and Sauer-Sundstrand employee.
Sauer-Sundstrand donated $500 to be used to distribute books to local daycare facilities and pre-schools and to help with Family Reading Night at IVCC on Nov. 19.
PTK reporter Debra Kiss said "IVCCs Rho Omega chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is proud to help sponsor these activities that are so important to helping local children and adults have the opportunity to learn to read."
PTK is the only nationally recognized honor society for community colleges. Rho Omega is one of 1100 chapters in the U.S., Canada and U.S. Territorial possessions.
