TRICKS OF TRANSFERRING: Have any questions about transferring? The IVCC counseling staff will be offering workshops on the Tricks and Treats of Transferring at 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Oct. 29 in the Counseling Center.
The workshops will cover courses to take here, picking a major and selecting the right college.
Counselor Valerie Calvetti suggested that students interested in attending stop in the Counseling Center to pick up a copy of their transcript for reference prior to a workshop.
COLLEGE NIGHT: At least 50 college and university representatives will be on campus from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 4 to talk with prospective students at the annual College Night.
Two financial aid seminars will be offered that evening: a general Financial Aid Seminar from 6:45 to 7:45 and a Financial Planning for College Seminar from 7:30 to 8:30, both in the Cultural Center.
The first is for high school students and their parents; the second is for parents of young children.

John Marzetta, Director of the Career Service Center, described the Nov. 12 workshop as "an excellent way to prepare yourself with the latest techniques in planning your career."
All seminars will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in D-225. Contact the Career Service Center to reserve a seat.
NEW BEGINNINGS DOLLARS: A New Beginnings Scholarship of up to $2,000 will be awarded to eligible single mothers for the spring 1999 semester at IVCC.
Candidates must be single mothers, enrolled at IVCC for a minimum of 12 hours, have a gpa of at 2.0, complete the 1998-98 FAFSA form, and be willing to send a letter of thanks to the donors.
Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office, C-213. The application deadline is Dec. 11.
CHEMISTRY WEEK EVENTS: In honor of National Chemistry Week Nov. 1 - 7, the American Chemical Society is sponsoring a presentation by life science instructor Tim Horger and a Chem Show.
Horger will discuss his trip to Venezuela on Nov. 5.
Horger, who has made three trips to the rainforests of Venezuela, was there in May 1998 on a project funded by the National Geographic Society. He collected reptile and amphibian specimens from the Guanare River and the slopes of the Andes.
The Chem Show will be on Nov. 3. Both events will be at 7 p.m. in D-225, are open to the public and free of charge.
KICKING OFF 75TH: A Chili Cookoff to kickoff IVCCs 77th Anniversary planning raised nearly $150. In the Oct. 9 event, staff members voted the chili provided by Don Haas, retired instructor, as the best. The dessert provided by Marianne Dzik, special populations coordinator, won in the dessert category.
Fran Brolley, director of public information, said another food-related event would be planned for November. Students are welcome to attend all 75th Anniversary planning functions, he said.
GET YOUR FLU SHOTS: Flu shots will be available in F-114 on Nov. 4 from 1 to 5 p.m. for $10. Bonnie Grusk, chair of the Health Professions Division, said doctors orders will not be needed for anyone over 18.
Pneumonia vaccine will also be available for $20.
The Flu Clinic is co-sponsored by the LaSalle County Health Department and the Community Health Services of Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru and is open to all students, staff and the public.

ELECTION DAY: In the Nov. 3 General Election, voters will select members for the U.S. Senate, the House of Representatives, and the state legislature, will fill a number of state and county offices and will determine a variety of referenda issues including a proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution.
WANT TO SEE BRITAIN? If youd like to see the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and other British sites up close and personal, apply to study in Canterbury, England. Through IVCCs membership in the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs, IVCC students can live and study in England for a semester, earn 12 hours of credit in classes with British students and immerse themselves in the culture of the United Kingdom.
Political science instructor Joe Mikyska, who has taught in England for the ICISP program, said typically 15 to 20 students from schools throughout Illinois take advantage of this study opportunity each semester. WELCOME TO IVCC: High school seniors will be on campus Nov. 18, touring, visiting classes and talking with faculty and students.
WINSday (Welcome Into New Surroundings) Open House, organized by Director of Admissions Kelly Conrad, is designed to help high school students with their future plans.
THANKSGIVING BREAK CHANGE: IVCC will be closed all day on Wednesday, Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving.
In past years, the college closed at noon on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day. This year the college will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Classes resume Monday, Nov. 30.
NEED DENTAL WORK? The Dental Assisting Program is seeking patients in need of a dental exam, x-rays, fillings or sealants. Treatment is being offered free of charge to currently enrolled students and to college employees.
Pat Pearson, dental assisting instructor, said, "We are not looking for patients who only need their teeth cleaned; we are preparing students to be dental assistants not dental hygienists."
Anyone interested in scheduling an appointment should contact Pearson at ext. 359 or stop in the dental lab, B-214.
Free full mouth radiographs for students and staff will be taken beginning Jan. 14, 1999.
POCKET GUIDE AVAILABLE: A student pocket resource guide is available free of charge in E-316, the Connections Center. The guide includes IVCC programs and their phone extensions, local service agencies and their phone numbers and 800 numbers.
