Former Wrestler Ventura Named Minnesota Governor

Has professional wrestling become respectable? Or what’s happening to politics?

Jesse "The Body" Ventura, a former professional wrestler who used a feather boa as his costume, was elected the governor of Minnesota in the November general election.

Ventura, 47, ran as a Reform Party candidate, and until just before the election, his candidacy received the same serious news attention usually devoted to professional wrestling itself.

As a third-party candidate, Ventura beat out Democrat Hubert Humphrey III, Minnesota’s attorney general, and Republican Norm Coleman, mayor of St. Paul.

Following Ventura’s victory, professional wrestler "Hulk" Hogan announced his interest in running for political office.
