THANKSGIVING BREAK CHANGE: IVCC will be closed all day on Wednesday, Nov. 25, the day before Thanksgiving.
In past years, the college closed at noon on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day. This year the college will be closed on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Classes resume Monday, Nov. 30.

EDUCATORS PARTY: Student Educators are planning to meet from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6 at the home of advisor Diane Christianson in Princeton. Andrea Anderson, Student Educators President, said the event will provide members with a chance to get to know each other, to network and to discuss upcoming events.
Pizza and drinks will be provided, Anderson said, but each member needs to bring a donation of a childs gloves, hat, scarf or boots, new or used. Directions to Christiansons home are available in E-212 or at ext. 477. Anderson asked members to R.S.V.P. by Dec. 2.
CHRISTMAS GOODIES: The American Chemical Society will have a bake sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 8 outside of the cafeteria.
CHRISTMAS TEA: The Student Nurse Association Christmas Tea will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Fireplace Lounge. Kim Briddick, SNA public relations director, said the tea was to say thank you to community clinical agencies and faculty and staff at IVCC for supporting the student nurses and the nursing program.
SPRING OPERA: The Chamber Singers and Collegiate Chorale will present a one-act opera, "The Devil and Daniel Webster" by Douglas Moore on May 2.
Dr. Alan Peters, director, said all voices are needed for the program which may be supplemented by operatic excerpts. Both choruses will meet at 1 p.m. on MWF in D-223 during the spring semester.
The opera, in English, is from a story by Stephen Vincent Benet about a man who has sold his soul to the devil in return for political and monetary power. On his wedding day, the devil comes to reclaim the debt, and Daniel Webster, the great orator, argues the "case" in front of a jury.
POINSETTIA SALE: The Student Educators Organization will be hosting a poinsettia fundraiser Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5:30 to 7 p.m. and on Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Further information will be posted on bulletin boards and available from advisor Diane Christianson in E-212, ext. 477.
WRITERS READY? The deadline for submissions for the first issue of River Currents, the IVCC literary magazine, is Nov. 20.
Fiction, poetry, plays, film scripts and creative non-fiction may be submitted to Geoff Schmidt at A-315 or Kim Radek at A-311. All manuscripts must have a name on them, but submissions will be judged anonymously.
This issue will be published in January or February, Schmidt said. A second issue will be published in the spring.
LEGAL CHANGES: "Reframing the American Legal System Through Effective Conflict Resolution" is the topic of the next Honors Colloquium Program on Dec. 2. Thomas Cavenagh of North Central College will lecture and lead a discussion from 2 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. in F-113.
The program is open to the public and free of charge.
SEEING ITALIAN ART: A trip to explore the treasures of Italy is being scheduled for May 30, 1999, through June 12, 1999, by Dana Collins. The trip includes tours of Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome, guided visits to a number of museums, a full-time tour director, breakfast and dinner daily, hotel accommodations, and air fare from Chicago for $2,899 to $2,929. BUILDING BRIDGES: Members of the humanities and fine arts division will be hosting an open house on campus for area high school teachers of art, English, languages, music and speech/theater from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 23.
75th ANNIVERSARY SUBS: Members of the faculty and staff are invited to a Subsandwich Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 24 in the Fireplace Lounge.
Organized as a fund-raiser for the 75th Anniversary Committee Fund, the lunch features a 4 inch sub, drink and dessert for $4.
YOUR KIDS CAREER: IVCC counselors are offering a program entitled "Kick Off Your Kids Career" from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Counseling Center.

PLACEMENT TESTING: Students interested in attending IVCC full-time in the spring or fall of 1999 can take part in group placement tests in November or December.

SERVICES AVAILABLE: The Alternatives to Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Services office in C-212 is open Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon to 8 p.m., and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.
NEED DENTAL WORK? The Dental Assisting Program is seeking patients in need of a dental exam, x-rays, fillings or sealants. Treatment is being offered free of charge to currently enrolled students and to college employees.
Pat Pearson, dental assisting instructor, said, "We are not looking for patients who only need their teeth cleaned; we are preparing students to be dental assistants not dental hygienists."

Free full mouth radiographs for students and staff will be taken beginning Jan. 14, 1999.

WANT TO SEE BRITAIN? If youd like to see the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and other British sites up close and personal, apply to study in Canterbury, England. Through IVCCs membership in the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs, IVCC students can live and study in England for a semester, earn 12 hours of credit in classes with British students and immerse themselves in the culture of the United Kingdom.
Political science instructor Joe Mikyska, who has taught in England for the ICISP program, said typically 15 to 20 students from schools throughout Illinois take advantage of this study opportunity each semester. POCKET GUIDE AVAILABLE: A student pocket resource guide is available free of charge in E-316, the Connections Center. The guide includes IVCC programs and their phone extensions, local service agencies and their phone numbers and 800 numbers.
