IVCC > Nursing Admission Formula: Index Score Calculation

A nursing calculator has been developed to assist students and counselors with calculating a potential score. This calculator is not a substitute for meeting with a counselor and attending a Nursing Information Session.

Only grades earned within the last 7 years in BIO 1007 and BIO 1008 may be used in the calculation of your score, unless BIO 1200 is taken as a refresher. Students also have the option of retaking courses for a higher grade, if they choose.

Grades of D, F, and W will not be counted in completion points.

This calculator is for an unofficial estimate. The official score will be calculated by the Admissions Office.

A.) Core Course Grade Points (Course Grade x Credit Hour) - Applies to each of the following core courses: BIO 1007 Anatomy and Physiology I, BIO 1008 Anatomy and Physiology II, BIO 1009 Microbiology, BIO 1007 BIO 1008 BIO 1009 ALH 1000 ALH 1002 B.) Completion of related courses - In this category, points are awarded for courses taken that may help the student throughout the Nursing Program. 1 point will be awarded for each course completed with a "C" or higher. i. ENG 1001: English Comp I ii. ENG 1002: English Comp II iii. SOC 1000: Introduction to Sociology iv. PSY 1000: General Psychology v. ALH 1001 Medical Terminology C.) HESI Cumulative Score - Current topics: Grammar, Anatomy, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, & Mathematics. D.) Work Experience in a clinical based Healthcare Field - Points in this category are awarded based on your recent (within 1 year) work experience in a clinical healthcare setting. Full time is considered 32 hours or more per week. Part time is considered less than 32 hours per week. A work verification form and associated certifications must accompany your application.
